A Needs Assessment Study was completed in August 2019 to provide the Transportation Department with recommendations for improvements to Houghton Road from Tanque Verde Road to Speedway Boulevard. The study used the updated Pima Association of Governments (PAG) traffic projections to analyze existing and future operations and updated the recommended improvements for the segment included in the 2010 Design Concept Report. This segment is in the planning phase and design has not been started.

Funding

The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.2 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Houghton Road Corridor projects are part of the RTA plan and are managed by City of Tucson. For more information, visit www.RTAmobility.com.
